TRIO Mission & Goals

Student Academic Assistance is a Student Support Services TRIO program, funded by U.S. Department of Education.

This program promotes the success of low-income, first-generation, and disabled college students. It provides support services which include

  • Personal, academic and career counseling
  • Transfer advice
  • Visits to universities and colleges
  • Personal Growth and Development Workshops
  • Tutoring services

For information and resources about planning, preparing and paying for college you may either make an appointment with any of our counselors or visit www.college.gov.

The www.college.gov website, built by the U.S. Department of Education, is intended to provide you with information and resources including the benefits of attending college and understanding the financial aid process.

Counseling Services

Plan your career goals, choose your major, create a long range academic plan, solve personal problems, reduce your stress, learn effective study skills, assess your interests, assess your personality type, create an individualized college transfer plan, all with the help of our accredited counselors.
Counseling Hours:

Mon-Fri8:00am - 4:00pm
Tue8:00am - 6:00pm

Tutoring

Free one-to-one in many subjects including English, math, computers, business, and science. Sign-up appointments available.

SAA students are eligible for two hours of tutoring per week for each subject they are taking.

Campus Visits

Each quarter, we take interested students to four-year colleges and universities throughout Washington State to get an inside look at campus life. Campus tours, sessions with transfer counselors, and transportation are all included! Here are some of the campuses we visit:

  • Evergreen State College
  • Evergreen- Tacoma Campus
  • Seattle Pacific University
  • Seattle University
  • University of Washington
  • UW- Bothell Campus
  • UW- Tacoma Campus
  • Washington State University
  • Western Washington

Other SAA Services

  • A private library with books available for check-out on topics that include career & jobs, college, personal growth, and study skills.
  • Supplemental instruction for Math 084 and ESL for levels 093-099
    Tuesday - Thursday 12:00pm - 2:00pm
  • Quarterly cultural events.
